President Joe Biden took to Twitter to promote electric vehicles on Monday, aligning with his administration’s green energy efforts.
He was seen smiling in an EV with a mask hanging below his chin.
“On my watch, the great American road trip is going to be fully electrified. And now, through a tax credit, you can get up to $7,500 on a new electric vehicle,” Biden announced next to an accompanying photo showing him smiling in a Hummer EV, with his mask under his chin and the passenger masked up for safety.
According to TFLEV’s footage, it appears that the Hummer EVs reportedly take several days to fully charge when using a standard wall outlet. The footage showed a man starting to charge his vehicle through a standard outlet on a Sunday morning.
The vehicle’s range increase is one mile per hour.
Despite President Biden’s promotion of the tax credit, the Hummer EV still has a starting price of $87,000 and a driving range of 329 miles.
However, it boasts an advanced 800-volt electrical architecture and a fast-charging capability of 350 kilowatts, allowing for an additional 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
For those without access to DC fast charging stations, the vehicle can also be charged through regular public terminals or at home using a provided adapter, albeit at a slower charging speed.
Despite the benefits of electric vehicles, it still takes a full day to fully charge the vehicle using a 240-volt charger.
Driving 100 miles in a gas-powered vehicle is more cost-effective than an electric vehicle, costing $11.29 compared to $11.60 due to the high cost of electricity. The report also stated that for those who use charging stations, the average cost for 100 miles jumps to $14.40.
Biden’s push for electric vehicles comes just after a meeting with Tesla’s Elon Musk at the White House, where they discussed ways to increase electrification and how the infrastructure and inflation reduction acts can help advance electric vehicles.
