However, records indicate that Vilsack did not attend any meetings, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/biden-supply-chain-task-force-leader-didnt-attend-meetings\">Washinton Examiner<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This occurred in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/agriculture-secretary-tom-vilsack-led-the-biden-administrations-supply-chain-task-force-he-never\">June 2021<\/a>, as the disease outbreak resulted in supply chain disruptions and the government&#8217;s increased spending. The Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force was created to address the issue with a comprehensive approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite initial promises, meetings between the task force and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/agriculture-secretary-tom-vilsack-led-the-biden-administrations-supply-chain-task-force-he-never\">never materialized<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to records obtained through a Freedom of Information Act&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/USDA-FOIA-supply-chain-task-force.pdf\">request<\/a>&nbsp;submitted by the Functional Government Institute, there is no evidence that Vilsack or his representatives participated in any meetings with the task force following its launch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, Vilsack&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agweek.com\/news\/white-house-blames-meat-industry-consolidation-for-higher-grocery-food-prices\">focused<\/a>&nbsp;on accusing the meat industry of exploiting the disease outbreak for financial gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was not the only member of the supply chain initiative who was absent, as Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, another co-chair of the task force, went on paternity leave in August 2021 and his absence went&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/politics\/pete-buttigieg-paid-leave\/\">unnoticed<\/a>&nbsp;for two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The task force was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/biden-supply-chain-task-force-leader-didnt-attend-meetings\">assigned<\/a>&nbsp;by President Biden with the goal of addressing bottlenecks and supply limitations in various industries. However, the May 2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/IN\/IN11927\/2\">report<\/a>&nbsp;from the Congressional Research Service fails to mention any specific actions taken by the task force to accomplish its objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/agriculture-secretary-tom-vilsack-led-the-biden-administrations-supply-chain-task-force-he-never\">critics argue<\/a>&nbsp;that the policies implemented by the Biden administration were insufficient in addressing and resolving supply chain challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Joe Biden appointed Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack as co-chair of a team tasked with addressing a supply chain crisis that led to empty grocery shelves.
