During a Wednesday interview with PBS, President Joe Biden dismissed the Republican investigation into claims of his family’s influence peddling, suggesting that the public doesn’t have any interest in it.
Judy Woodruff of PBS pointed out that the Republicans “talk about access others have gotten because of you, because of your political success. How do you plan to deal with that?”
“The public’s not going to pay attention to that,” Biden replied. “They want these guys to do something. If the only thing they can do is make up things about my family, it’s not going to go very far.”
While Joe Biden addressed an audience in Wisconsin, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee in Washington D.C. was grilling former Twitter executives over allegations of censorship surrounding a New York Post article about Hunter Biden’s laptop during the crucial days prior to the 2020 presidential election.
Despite the New York Post presenting evidence, including a document from the FBI, confirming the ownership of the abandoned laptop by Hunter Biden, Twitter still took down the story and temporarily suspended the Post’s account for a period of two weeks.
“Throughout his presidential campaign, Joe Biden told the American people that he had never mentioned his overseas visits to his son,” Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) stated. “However, the details exposed in the Post article indicate that Joe Biden lied to the American people.”
Comer remarked that the former Twitter officials were “entrusted with the highest level of power at Twitter, but when you were faced with the New York Post story, instead of allowing people to judge the information for themselves, you rushed to find a reason why the American people shouldn’t see it.”
House Republicans are currently investigating alleged questionable business dealings and potential influence peddling by Hunter Biden and his father. In recent months, GOP lawmakers have also expanded their inquiry to include Hunter Biden’s art transactions.
Additionally, Hunter Biden is facing an investigation by the U.S. attorney in Delaware over allegations of tax violations. He has vehemently denied any involvement in any illegal activities.
However, Biden’s Republican critics argue that the reason why fewer people may pay heed to investigations into his family is due to the media’s reporting, which frequently sensationalized investigations involving Donald Trump.
